The Drum and Bugle Corps World has lost one of its biggest fans

Gladys Maye Garr, 87 of Auburn went to watch the Big Corps in heaven on Monday, April 07, 2014.

Together with her late husband Mel, they owned and operated Mel Garr Inc. and Melco Cranes for  over 56 years.

She was a member of the Carnicelli & Indelicato Post 1776 Auxiliary for 50 years and also server as past officers of the origination. Gladys had a deep love for her country and our military.
In her younger days she loved to bowl with her friends and also was previously active with The Salvation Army.
Together Gladys and Mel were big supporters of Auburn Purple Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps where she also served as the girls “Guard Mother”. “Mrs. G” as she was affectingly known, had a love for the music and the kids as they performed and she would travel all around with the Lancers.
Gladys and Mel were honored in 2006 by the National Drum Corps Associates for their grateful appreciation and the donations they have made throughout the years to the Drum & Bugle Corps world.
Gladys was also honored as “Grandmother of the Year” by the Auburn Little League for always being there to support her grandsons, Scott and Shane.
Gladys’s greatest love was for her family and her pets and the time she got to spend with them all.  She is survived by 1 son –Richard of North Carolina and 3 daughters Sherry Garr (Paul Anderson), Phyllis (Fritz) Allen of Auburn and Linda J. Garr of NY City          6 – Grandchildren: Scott M Maneri, Shane M. Maneri,  Sarah Maye (J.D.) Forrest, Elizabeth Garr (Ron), Kevin Garr (Abbey) and Heather Garr.
5 Great Grand Children, Madison Maye Forrest, Brianna Jacobson,  Kira Jade Corr, Lilli Humphreys and Rylee Garr, She is also survived by her 16 year old pet Siamese boys Simon and Sabu. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Melvin Garr and her son Roger Garr.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 12th at 4:00 PM with Dr. Leroy Kettinger officiating at the White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South Street, Auburn, NY. Friends are invited to call on the family Saturday, April 12th from 2-4 prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Garr may be made to Finger Lakes SPCA of Central NY  or the Auburn Purple Lancers Drum & Bugle Corps.
